The ChatGPT outage was really felt by British students who were excited to use the AI chatbot during their A-level exams today. However, students in China have already been intentionally cut off from several AI platforms.

While over 13 million students took the four-day gaokao university entrance exam, ByteDance’s Doubao and DeepSeek completely stopped answering any questions.

At the same time, Tencent’s Yuanbao, Alibaba’s Qwen, and Moonshot’s Kimi AI chatbots all turned off their image-recognition features during the exam hours.
There was no public announcement from any of these companies, but students shared screenshots and talked about the blank pages where their AI helpers usually are. At least British students can use Claude or other options.
